On the River Inn is the perfect central base to explore the captivating state of Vermont in any season.
Spring
Spring is a beautiful time in Vermont. The snow is melting and the maple syrup is flowing! Visit Billings Farm for Sheep Shearing Weekends in May, go to Sugarbush Farm to see how Maple Syrup is made, and visit Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Park, which opens in late May.
Spring Activities
- Search for Spring wild flowers – don’t forget your mud boots!
- Go trout fishing on opening day – second Saturday in April
- Enter a pond skimming contest – a mud season tradition
- Hang out in a sugar house – if interested in visiting one ask around at local General Stores or call the number on the label of a local maple syrup
- Hunt for shed antlers – as you wander the forest looking for spring wild flowers, keep your eyes peeled for the shed antlers from whitetail deer or even moose antlers
- Visit baby lambs at Billings Farm and Museum
- Drink beer outside – Long Trail Brewery has an awesome selection of craft beers and fire pits
- Visit local art galleries – ArtisTree exhibits works by local artists interpreting and inspired by the theme: MUD
- Start out your day with a wonderful Vermont country breakfast at the 506 break fast buffet
- Help yourself to fresh baked cookies daily in our Bistro along with coffee and tea
- Come try a specialty drink that all start with a house-made shrub at our beautiful bar from 4-11pm daily


Summer
Summer in Woodstock is a time for enjoying the great outdoors and visiting the many festivals that are held each year. Rent a bike from Woodstock Sports and take a ride along Old River Road to the scenic Taftsville covered bridge. Visit the Quechee Gorge and stop by Simon Pearce for lunch.
Summer Activities
- Start your day with a relaxing country breakfast in our farmh ouse kitchen topped with our favourite maple syrup & maple butter
- Play horseshoes and lawn games available at our explorer corner
- Explore the river with our outdoor toys, floats and nets avail able in the explorer corner
- Help yourself to complimentary cookies, ice coffee, coffee and tea in the bistro from 10am – 5pm
- Enjoy popcorn & family movie night in our games room every evening from 8pm onwards
- Have a picnic on the lawn
- Roast complimentary s’mores at the fire pit from 7pm – 9pm nightly
- Take the shuttle downtown to Woodstock village to stroll, shop and dine
- Pet a cow and feed the chickens at billings farm
- Enjoy an ice-cream on the river banks at the white cottage
Fall
Fall is a special season in Woodstock. Nature paints the landscape with spectacular colorful foliage, and crisp weather makes a warm cup of cider taste even more delicious.
Fall Activities
- Enjoy our Vermont Country Breakfast with our delicious Maple Syrup and Maple Cream featuring local Vermont Cheddar and Farm apples.
- Play Horseshoes on the Lawn at 506.
- Take a Fall Hike at Mt Tom.
- Enjoy our complimentary Cookies, Coffee and Tea in the Bistro from 10am-5pm.
- Roast Complimentary Smore’s at the firepit between 7pm-9pm daily
- Try the selection of Vermont Cheeses and Maple Syrup at Sugarbush Farm
- Go Pumpkin picking at Winslow Farm in Pittsford Vermont
- Get lost in the Corn Maze at The Great Vermont Corn Maze, Danville Vermont
- Wade in the Ottauquechee River and explore with the toys and games available on a complimentary basis for our little Explorers.
- Try some of our delicious Fall Cocktails: Salty Bail or a Pumpkin Latte-ini
- Feed the cows and chickens at Billings Farm.
- Try the Fall menu in the Bistro: Maple Mustard Pork Chops,
- Stroll through the “ridiculously Pretty” (as per the Boston Globe) village of Wood stock for some shopping, restaurants and a taste of Village life
- Try your hand at baking a pie with a cooking class at the renowned “King Arthur Flour” home to America’s oldest mill and company!


Winter
Winter is a classic season in Woodstock. Five ski resorts (each under an hour drive away) are within your reach from On The River Inn. Suicide Six, Quechee Lakes, Pico, Okemo and Killington have some of the best trails in Central Vermont. In addition to downhill skiing, there are numerous places to cross-country ski and snowshoe. Be sure to take a sleigh ride at Billings Farm! One of the highlights of the Winter season is Woodstock’s Wassail Week end, which includes a parade, beautifully decorated home tours and festive activities.
